about 1Day Africa research
Our Goal: To promote the participation of African academics in global medical research which benefits the African population. This is achieved through three primary endeavours:
To provide resources to young academics to help fulfil their research goals.
To promote collaboration between academics across the continent.
To facilitate the dissemination of African research to maximize impact.
Medicine in Africa is a unique challenge which requires the joint involvement of African academics across the continent to make progress. Yet it is difficult for a self-sufficient research culture to form due to a lack of funding and opportunities for young researchers. In cases when world class research is conducted (which is common) researchers struggle to share their research in a manner which is impactful and leads to further research and collaboration. The research team at 1Day Africa aims to help address these challenges. We believe in the competency of African researchers and that we should begin to look locally for research opportunities. This includes helping students remain on the continent to conduct their studies, as opposed to leaving the continent to research African problems overseas. We need to form a self-sufficient medical research community before we can partake most effectively on the global scale.
